The origin of the hotel has its roots in an old german house in Puerto Varas. We are the biggest hotel in the south of Chile built of  wood using the materials recycled from the building of the old "German School" (more than 100 years old). In this process, the most part of the wood has been reused and the old structures recovered as well as the original floor and windows. Finally, the cladding of alerce tree (in Chile a protected tree) has been applied according to its original design to decorate the exterior facade.

The beams are of ulmo wood and its  average length is 6 meters. They show clearly visible traces of the buzz saw and the way it had been used in the previous sawmills.  We can also see mortising and dowels used  for construction by the firsts german immigrants.

The lighting of the hotel are the old screens of the corridors and courtyards that had belonged to the boarding school of the "German School". The doors of the bedrooms are genuine classroom doors and the furniture from the school mentioned above. The natural color of the wood, mostly the endemic mañío and alerce trees, has been preserved to underline the contrast with the warm color of the interior of the building thus achieving a harmony with the warm colors of the interior of the building.

Inside the hotel there is a literary cafe with internet aaccess, wi-fi and a wide collection of vinyl records from the 19th and 20th century. Moreover, there are two  conference rooms with the capacity of holding meetings for 20 persons each. It's also possible to join the two rooms  in order to obtain more space of multiple use. 

The hotel has 36 bedrooms, 10 with double bed and the others with two beds. All rooms can be booked as superior single rooms. The original idea of the hotel  as an art gallery and highlights the name of the painter El Greco through its rich collection of the chilean and international painters (340 original paintings) and antiques remembering the german colonial period.
 

The reception hall and the reception desk area has a wide display of antiquities that had been found in the attic of the school: a bell, an old boiler, drills, tools from the crafts room and so on. All these elements give a particular charm to the dwellings of the hotel thereby reinforcing the idea of "Boutique hotels" (Hoteles con encanto) associated with the concept of Boutique hotels in Spain.
